EcoSummit 2024
Eco-Civilization for a Sustainable and Desirable Future

14-19 December 2024 | Zhengzhou, China

The 7th International EcoSummit Congress - EcoSummit 2024 - will take place at Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, Henan, China, 14-19 December 2024.

We are living in the Anthropocene Era when almost 80% of our potentially usable Biogeosphere has been converted by humans, usually without understanding the consequences of our actions, through modification of the structure of its ecosystems and, most importantly, the key ecological processes that developed gradually through the Earth’s history as shaped by first by evolution and then ecological succession. Eco-civilization and sustainability can only be assured with an ecological understanding of the complex interactions among environmental, economic, political, and social/cultural dimensions and with careful planning and management grounded in ecological principles.

This conference series was founded in 1996 in Copenhagen, as a forum for scientists, practitioners, and policymakers working across disciplines to solve the integrated environmental, social, and economic problems facing the world today. Since 1996, EcoSummits have occurred around the world (Canada, China, USA and Europe), with EcoSummit 2016 hosting 1400 participants from 87 countries in Montpellier, France and EcoSummit 2023 hosting 700 participants from 59 countries in the Gold Coast, Australia.

EcoSummit 2024 will highlight terrestrial ecosystems, including mountain, water, forest, farm, lake, grassland and urban ecosystems crucial for various habitats in watersheds. The event will cover integrated aspects of all ecological science and its application under the general theme of “Eco-Civilization for a Sustainable and Desirable Future”. The emphasis will be placed on fostering socio-economic and ecological resilience across all scales – from local to regional, and global scales, aiming for sustainable prosperity and wellbeing. Special attention will be given to vulnerable systems at higher risk from climate change and human impact, including arid and semi-arid lands. The Summit is expected to produce a declaration encompassing its vision and offering policy recommendations.

Topics covered will include, but are not limited to:
