The EcoSummit 2024 International Scientific Committee invites the submission of Symposia proposals. Following the conference theme ‘Eco-Civilization for a Sustainable and Desirable Future’, the Committee is developing a program that will highlight the advances and research made to address the current environmental problems facing our fast-changing world. A focus will be on the ecologically sustainable solutions to the most pressing problems of our time.

Symposia will be considered that address one or more of the conference topics (but are not limited to):

Terrestrial Ecological Systems

  • Mountain ecosystem
  • Watershed ecology and society
  • Forest ecosystem, conservation, and sustainable use
  • Sustainable agriculture and farming
  • Lake restoration and rehabilitation
  • Grassland conservation and sustainable use

Ecology and Biodiversity

  • Biodiversity and biological conservation
  • Biological invasions
  • Disturbance ecology
  • Ecological complexity
  • Ecological indicators
  • Ecological modeling
  • Ecosystem creation and restoration
  • Ecosystem health
  • Ecotoxicology
  • Scaling from genomes to ecosystems

Policy and Governance

  • Climate adaptation and mitigation
  • Climate change and carbon neutrality
  • Eco-health and public health (diseases)
  • Environmental policies and frameworks
  • Fragile ecosystems and hotspot management
  • Eco-civilization and sustainable development
  • Biophysical planetary boundaries and health
  • Anthropogenic pressure and ecological resilience
  • Citizen Science and local actors (NGOs)
  • Ecological economics
  • Ecosystem services
  • Ecotourism
  • Industrial ecology
  • Innovative technology for ecological sustainability

Who may submit Symposia proposals?

All who share an interest in ecological science, applications, or practice are invited to submit Symposia proposals. We encourage proposals from scientists at all levels, university students, NGOs, and environmental practitioners.

Preparing and Submitting a Symposium Proposal

Symposia proposals should be submitted by Friday 10 May 2024, using the online Symposia Proposal Form.

Those submitting the proposal should provide basic information on the Symposia organisers, a title and a short abstract of the Symposium proposal.

Symposia need to be led by a chair and a co-chair; both must be registered participants to avoid no-shows onsite. In order to stimulate the participation of junior researchers in the meeting, one of the chairs can and should – wherever possible – be an early career scientist (within 5 years of their first academic appointment).

Symposia will generally last 90 minutes and include four 20-minute talks, although more time may be allocated to select Symposia based on the response to the call for abstracts. These durations may be subject to slight adaptations to fit the final program.

Symposia are open to abstracts from all participants

Symposia will consist of presentations selected from abstracts submitted to the general call for abstracts.

Symposia organizers are welcome to invite speakers from their own networks to submit abstracts for presentation within their Symposia but must also be open to receiving submissions from outside of their networks.

In the event that the number of accepted abstracts for a particular session exceeds the number that can be accommodated in a single session, organizers may be given an additional session slot in the conference program.

Role of Symposium Organizers

Symposium organizers of accepted proposals are expected to communicate with prospective presenters regarding submission of abstracts and will be asked to review abstracts submitted for their sessions during the abstract review period (in August 2024). The Scientific Committee will review and approve (or ask for modifications) of all sessions before the final program is announced.

Both chairs must register to the conference to avoid no-show onsite.

Criteria for Selection

Symposia proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by members of the Scientific Committee with primary consideration given to their scientific quality and relevance to the conference themes.

Proposals will be evaluated as they are received, so we strongly encourage submissions in advance of the 10 May 2024 deadline.

Acceptance decisions will be made no later than Friday 24 May 2024.

Financial Support

Please note that all financial arrangements for Symposia are at the account of the symposia organisers. The EcoSummit 2024 organisers are NOT able to cover travel and/or registration costs for Symposium Speakers and Chairs. Conference registration of the Speakers and Chairs is mandatory and a pre-requisite for participating and to hold the proposed Symposium.

Please refer to the registration page for more information on special discounted registration rates for students, Chinese nationals and low- and middle-income countries.

For revisions or queries regarding Symposia proposals

If you do not receive acknowledgement for your symposia proposal or you wish to make any essential revisions to an abstract already submitted, please DO NOT RESUBMIT your abstract, as this may lead to duplication. Please email the Conference Content Executive with details of any revisions or queries. Please quote your reference number if you have one. Please do not email credit card information under any circumstances.
